Living in Florida, we are constantly surrounded by water. Children who elope, or wander unnoticed pose a greater risk for drowning, especially if they do not know how to swim. The risk of drowning is 160 times greater for children with autism than the rest of the general population. Children with autism often seek water for sensory input without regard for safety or consideration of their water safety skills.
